Finance for Part-Time Students
Fees & financial help
We aim to make our courses affordable and offer students advice on how they can pay for fees.
Level 1 to 3 courses in academic year 2024/25 (September 2024 onwards) could be free if they are on the approved list (see Overview – List of Qualifications approved for funding (education.gov.uk)) and you meet the following criteria:
- You meet the residency eligibility criteria (see Adult skills fund: funding rules 2024 to 2025 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk))
- If you are currently awaiting asylum outcome from the government an application ‘Share Code’ must be provided to the college as part of enrolment
- Your residential postcode is within the AEB devolved West Yorkshire area
- Aged 16 to 24 with an EHC Plan
OR
- You are applying for a level 1, 2 or 3, and have no prior attainment at the chosen study level (no age restriction) – You are considered to have legal entitlement to level 3
OR
- If you have prior attainment to a full level 1, 2 or 3, and wish to study for an additional level 1, 2 or 3 (FCFJ) the qualification chosen must be from the approved list – Overview – List of Qualifications approved for funding (education.gov.uk) and the ‘Earnings Threshold’ will apply:
You must be able to provide evidence of one of the following evidence scenarios:
- Employed and your gross annual salary is less than £25,000 (including self-employed)
- Unemployed and receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit
- Unemployed and can evidence that you are economically inactive

Learner Support Fund
The fund is used to assist students who may be experiencing financial hardship and contributes towards costs incurred for attending College. It is cash-limited and priority will be given to economically or socially disadvantaged students, for more information please speak to Student Services or enquire through studentservices@lcb.ac.uk
Level 3 Study and Advanced Learner Loans
Help take the financial worry away from studying with an Advanced Learner Loan.
Key facts:
- Help pay for your level 3, where no government funding available
- It’s easy to apply
- Your household income isn’t taken into account
- There is no credit check
- You won’t have to pay anything back until your income is over £26,575 a year
- You pay back 9% of any income above £27,295 a year, £2,274 a month or £524 a week
- If you stop working, your repayments will also stop
- You start repaying your loan in the April after you leave your course
You can apply online but first you will need to check with the College that the course qualifies, we will then provide you with a Learning and Funding Information letter.

Other Sources of Financial Support
If you’re studying a level 3 qualification, you might be eligible for an ‘Adult Education Budget’ grant
You might be able to get extra money if you:
- Pay for childcare
- Are a full-time student with children
- Have an adult who depends on you financially
- Have a disability, mental or physical health problem or learning difficulty like dyslexia
